It goes without saying that interviews, especially during these unprecedented times, can be extremely nerve-wracking. Some struggle with knowing how to act and what to say when trying to stand out over Zoom. Not only do you have to nail your elevator pitch, but you’re also expected to look professional while doing so in efforts to put your best face forward. Young male and female professors are taught how to present themselves and what to say during the interview, but who tells us what to wear and how to look?
AVOID DISTRACTING COLORS AND PATTERNS
Stick with the classics, remember that. You can never go wrong with black, navy blue and gray. Whether that is your button down or your blazer. Male professionals always pick that nice pair of pants over your old pair of khakis. Female communicators, you have so many options while remaining comfortable and professional. Jazz up that black blazer with a fun dress underneath to make you feel like the powerful woman you are. There are so many cute blouses on the market that would look great with any pair of pants you choose.
YOU DON’T HAVE TO BREAK THE BANK
Everyone is thrifting now-a-days and your local thrift stores have plenty of options for college kids struggling during these times. If you want to drop some extra cash, it would be smart to invest in a few nice core pieces. I mean buy that nice black blazer, spend the money on the classy pair of trousers. Express, H&M, Old Navy and even Amazon have some great choices.
YOUR HAIR MATTERS, TOO
C’mon gentlemen, shave the beard, it’s time. Or at least trim it up a little, your future employers will thank you. Ladies, don’t let your hair fall in your face. Show off your confidence, and rock that high pony. You can never go wrong.
PUT YOUR FACE ON, IF YOU WANT
Makeup can be such a fun creative outlet to relieve stress. If you want to do a full face for your interview, go off! Just remember to keep it neutral and presentable. Break out that Urban Decay OG Naked palette and put it to good use. My favorite trick is simply using bronzer as eye shadow for a quick and easy look.
REMEMBER: BE CONFIDENCE!
