Top 3 Resources for Freshmen Buckeyes

College can be overwhelming. As freshmen at such a large university, making proper life choices to effectively balance your schoolwork, professional development and social life can be very difficult and even weigh on your mental health.  Luckily, Ohio State includes services to help freshmen get acclimated to their new environment and succeed.

Counseling and Consultation Service (CCS)

According to Mayo Clinic Health System, dealing with depression, anxiety and other mental health issues can be taxing on students, particularly freshmen. Ohio State has mental health services readily available at any time. The Ohio State Counseling and Consultation Service (CCS) provides students with individual and group therapy sessions. Students can register online and be linked with a counselor to discuss the best treatment plan for success and improvements in mental health.

Buckeye Food Alliance

 It is important that students do not have to stress about meals and can maintain a nutritious diet throughout the semester. Buckeye Food Alliance offers affordable food to students, and they are located at the Lincoln Tower. This service allows students to order food through their webpage and pick it up.

Christian Saab, a third-year strategic communication major said that, “The Buckeye Food Alliance is great for students who can’t really afford healthy products and also allows for a diverse range of accessible food options.”

Looking to get involved on campus? Ohio State offers over 1,400 organizations for students to get involved in. According to the Office of Student Life, students who choose to get involved achieve positive outcomes and grow skills that last a lifetime.

At the Student Activities Office located in the Ohio Union, students can learn additional information about methods to get involved. Students can also visit their website and consult the list of organizations available to find what suits them best. 

The Recreational and Physical Activity Center is Ohio State’s largest recreational facility and serves as a multipurpose complex with space for students to be healthy and active. The facility provides students with opportunities to participate in an active atmosphere. 
Ohio State Recreational Sports offers group sports, sports clubs and safety training for students interested in remaining active throughout the semester.
