Best Dressed at the Golden Globes

By Aislin, Ava, Evelyn, Lexi, Mia, Nigel, Kacie, and Mira

The Golden Globes are dedicated to recognizing excellence in film and television… but as evidenced by the amount of attention folks pay to the red carpet, that’s clearly not all the awards show is about. It’s also the chance for stars to show off tailor-made fashions.

As the PR team for an apparel brand, we have some very strong fashion opinions, and we’re here to dish them out! Below, everyone on Team Decent Exposures shares their picks for the night’s best-dressed stars, from Billie Eilish to Oprah Winfrey.

Billie Eilish: Selected by Kacie

(Glamour)

Billie Eilish never fails to catch my attention at an award show. This year, dressed in Willy Chavarria, Billie shows versatility through a traditionally masculine look. Every year, I admire Billie for her ability to look stunning, but in an untraditional sense. I have always loved her taste in fashion and this oversized suit jacket and khaki skirt combination is no exception. While the accessories are minimal, Billie’s glasses add a sophisticated touch and of course, I can’t forget to mention her iconic red-dyed roots. Overall, this look takes my spot for best dressed of the night and I’m looking forward to seeing more looks from Billie in the future.

Taylor Swift: Selected by Mira

(The Today Show)

Taylor Swift decided to kick off award season at the Golden Globes. Needless to say everyone was Enchanted by Swift’s gown. Swift wore a custom made sparkly green gown created by Gucci. Swift paired the show stopping gown with gorgeous dangling earrings. The stars gown and earrings combined made the whole place shimmer.

Pedro Pascal + Barry Keoghan: Selected by Nigel

(Vogue)

Black-and-white red carpet outfits can look snoozy and safe, or else they can look striking and bold. Last of Us star Pedro Pascal’s fell firmly into the latter, his abstract-patterned 3D turtleneck giving off understated avant-garde vibes, if such a thing is possible. The color palette had the added benefit of complementing his arm cast – further alluded to by a cheeky nail decal reading “ouchy.” The look was magnitudes more subtle (not to mention modest) than last year’s shorts-and-oversized-coast ensemble, but it was at least as interesting.

(Vogue)

At the other end of the color spectrum was Saltburn thespian Barry Keoghan’s look, which put the “red” in “red carpet.” His striking Louis Vuitton look put a new spin on familiar sartorial elements, to gorgeous effect: The patchwork-influenced fabric looked cozy yet luxe, while the little details — like the rumored Saltburn easter egg — added further visual interest. Then again, as a proud Buckeye, maybe I’m favorably disposed because of the OSU-liciousness of his color choice…

Margot Robbie: Selected by Evelyn

(Vogue)

I know what I was made for, and it’s to swoon over the stunning “Barbie” star Margot Robbie. Nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, Margot attended the Golden Globes wearing a vibrant hot pink, sequined dress and matching pink boa designed by Armani Privé. Continuing her “Barbie” era, this look was inspired by Superstar Barbie from 1977, and Superstar Barbie is right….Truthfully, miss Margot could wear a burlap sack and she’d still be as beautiful as ever, but I am really enjoying her dedication to her role and continuous call-backs to iconic Barbie dolls. It’s no doubt she herself will go down as an iconic Barbie.

Elle Fanning + Timothée Chalamet: Selected by Aislin

(Glamour)

Elle Fanning marveled in this dreamy Pierre Balmain gown. It screams femininity and fits perfectly with this winter’s bow trend we have seen on every social media site, and I am ALL for it. Paired with a simple makeup and slicked bun look, this classy gown was the star of the show (besides her nomination for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series Musical or Comedy) as Elle walked down the red carpet.

(Vogue)

When every award show comes around, I feel like I know exactly what to expect from every male attendee, and while Timothée stuck with the classic black tuxedo look for this year’s Golden Globes, his embellished number from Celine Homme goes down as one of my favorite looks of the night. This star-studded look was perfectly crafted for this star-studded actor, and I am so here for this spin on the classic red carpet look.

Hailee Steinfeld: Selected by Ava

(Vogue)

Hailee…Hepburn? Hailee Steinfeld steals the spotlight with a classic look highly reminiscent of the iconic 50s starlet Audrey Hepburn. The actress stood out beautifully in an elegant baby pink Prada gown complete with a simple train, sheer black gloves and a giant rock on her right hand. Steinfeld kept the rest of her accessories relatively simple with dainty diamond earrings and a matching necklace to tie it all together. Her brunette locks were swept up into a classic Hepburn updo as she expertly posed for the camera, turning heads with her sophisticated style.

Jennifer Lawrence: Selected by Mia

(Glamour)

Sleek and classy never fails to stun at award shows, and Jennifer Lawrence has this look down to a tee. Before starring in last summer’s raunchy comedy “No Hard Feelings,” Lawrence had been on an acting hiatus to take time for herself and start a family. She sure knows how to make a red carpet comeback, sporting a black, minimalist Dior dress while being nominated for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes. Simple makeup, silver accessories and silky hair further contribute to the chic and sophisticated ensemble.

Oprah Winfrey: Selected by Lexi

(Vogue)

Violet may just be the new Barbie Pink, according to Oprah Winfrey. The actress, producer, and author turned many heads as she strutted the carpet wearing a bright purple custom beaded long-sleeve gown by Louis Vuitton. Winfrey paired the gown with purple Manolo Blahnik pumps as well to tie the look together. This is only one of her many violet-themed looks we have in the past weeks. This look, as well as the many others, is a nod to Winfrey’s newest production, “The Color Purple.” The film is currently nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy (for Fantasia Barrino) and Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture (for Danielle Brooks).

Closing Thoughts

One commonality among all the night’s best-dressed stars? That the outfits were so them; they were clearly custom-made, or else gave them a perfect fit and vibe. In that respect, the night’s looks weren’t so different from Decent Exposures, our client – a woman-owned apparel brand that makes every single item to order, giving women (and men) the power to pick their fabric, sizing and customizations. Custom-made fits: They’re not just for the stars.
